Sigh...

I had a nice evening of catching up on email, writing a new post for the Den, and working on a cover letter for an agent, but my computer, my darling little G3 iBook will not turn on. Yes, it's plugged in. It just won't turn on. Not even the ubiquitous chimes of doom. Just a black and silent screen.

I'm using Dave's computer for a few minutes, but he needs it to work on his own project. So my evening plans are crushed. Wah.

However, I am finished with the CHILL rewrites. You know, the ones I've been whining and/or bitching about for the last three months or so? Yup, finished. I am quietly ecstatic about it. I'd be loudly ecstatic if my iBook worked. As is, I'm balancing the ecstasy of completion with the fear that my computer is about to cost me a buttload of money. A J-Lo butt, not some little heroin chic model sized butt.

Dang me.

Ah well, time to turn over the G4 to its rightful owner and try not to feel resentment as Dave writes on his WORKING iBook.

I will console myself with SPACE SEED and Ricardo Montalban in all his Khanish glory.

To quote Lt. MgGyver..."Magnificent."

Drooool...

There's an easy trick - which I can't exactly remember. But start by taking the battery out, waiting a minute or two and then seeing if it will reboot with the adaptor. This can happen when the battery dies, and the power manager doesn't remember to switch to the alternate power supply.

I'll try that when I get home. I'm also going to take it into the apple store...

If it's the problem with the power manager, you won't need to take it in. It's a common problem.

    Smack it.

I hope it's not the same problem I experienced with My mac laptop. The piece of hardware built into the laptop where the power adaptor plugs into the laptop. That piece of hardware crapped out on me. Stopped charging my battery and stopped carrying a current to the laptop. End result cheaper to invest the money it would've taken to fix it in a new laptop, than fix the one I've got.

Hmmm...well, my battery was charging last time I looked...so I hope that's not the problem! That'd just suck.

Yeah it would suck. Mine was a progressively degenerative problem, at first hit and miss with the battery charging, and gradually worse until no current at all to the battery or to the laptop. Had to do with a bad solder (sod-'er)connection.

One thing I learned with regards to any future Mac's... always spend the extra dough for the extended warrenty because thats when you will need it (right after the regular warrenty quits).

Hope it all works out. :)

    What's CHILL?

Oh, extended warranty good. Especially with laptops. I just think they take more abuse and are more prone to crap out.

The desktops, on the other hand...I've had one at the office for YEARS. I forget how old this thing is. I've never had a single problem with it, not one.

My new resolution is to buy a new laptop BEFORE the old one dies. Just for once.

And it's in the shop for repairs...and the warranty (extended as long as possible) ran out. D'oh!

CHILL is a screenplay I co-wrote with a friend, who wrote the book the screenplay is based on!

My laptop never left my apt. It was just nice to go online and be able to comfortably watch tv. However as it was explained to me by the mac tech (and also another friend who was a mac certified tech) it was a design flaw with that generation of laptops.

Learned the hardway. Next time I know. Buy the extended warrenty.

    Have a good weekend.

My lap top has lasted a good, long time...Unfortunately she chose to go out a few months AFTER the warranty expired. But it's still cheaper to have her fixed than buy a new one at this juncture...

My poor laptop gets jumped on by cats a lot...

Yep that sounds about familiar. That's when my laptop started giving me headaches (a month before the warranty expired I had a chance to purchase the apple extended warranty but passed it up b/c lack of fundage), and then about a year or a year and a half after that.. the laptop died.
